20 April 2026

Arena Racing Company (ARC) can confirm that three upcoming fixtures scheduled to take place at Brighton Racecourse on Tuesday 28th April, Wednesday 29th April, and Thursday 7th May have been transferred to alternative ARC racecourses due to ongoing investigations and treatment of localised track damage caused by leatherjackets.

Until we understand the nature of the remedial work required, to ensure the safety of all participants both equine and human, the following fixture transfers have been agreed:

  • Tuesday 28th April Afternoon Racing → Transferred to Great Yarmouth Racecourse
  • Wednesday 29th April Afternoon Racing → Transferred to Bath Racecourse
  • Thursday 7th May Afternoon Racing → Transferred to Royal Windsor Racecourse

Brighton Track Update

In terms of ongoing track works at Brighton, samples from the localised affected areas of the track are already in the process of being analysed by a turf disease specialist to establish the precise nature of the problem.

We expect their full findings in the next couple of days, and this will then inform our remedial work plan of action, which we will agree with our contracted agronomist. In the meantime, the track continues to be watered and maintained in line with best practice. Our Clerk of the Course and groundstaff team are doing everything they can to resolve this issue as soon as possible and get Brighton’s 2026 season underway.

Jack Hastings, Clerk of the Course at Brighton, said:

“After the abandonment of Saturday’s fixture at Brighton, further extensive course investigations are taking place. Samples from the localised affected areas of the track are already in the process of being analysed to establish the precise nature of the problem. We expect the full findings in the next couple of days and that will then inform the required next steps.

“Until we understand the nature of the remedial work required, with both equine and human safety in mind, the decision has been taken to transfer Brighton’s next three fixtures. In the meantime, the track continues to be watered and maintained in line with best practice.

“We apologise for the impact that these transfers may have and appreciate the support of all stakeholders in these unusual circumstances. We remain fully committed to getting Brighton’s 2026 season up and running as soon as is safely possible.”
